The long & short...It's nothing but pure 30mm pain waiting to happen...lol
I found this on plane-crazy.net
Replacement
The A-10 is scheduled to stay in service with the USAF until 2028, when it may be replaced by the F-35 (Joint Strike Fighter). Beginning in 2005 the entire A-10 fleet was upgraded to the "C" model that will include improved FCS (fire control system), ECM (electronic counter measures), and the ability to carry smart bombs. However, the A-10 could stay in service indefinitely due to both its low cost and its unique capabilities which the F-35 simply cannot incorporate such as its cannon, ruggedness, and slow flying capabilities.

And from another site.
The A-10's armaments include.
30 mm GAU-8/A seven-barrel Gatling gun; up to 16,000 pounds of mixed ordnance on eight under-wing and three under-fuselage pylon stations, including 500 pound Mk-82 and 2,000 pounds Mk-84 series low/high drag bombs, incendiary cluster bombs, combined effects munitions, mine dispensing munitions, AGM-65 Maverick missiles and laser-guided/ electro-optically guided bombs; infrared countermeasure flares; electronic countermeasure chaff; jammer pods; 2.75-inch (6.99 centimeters) rockets; illumination flares and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles.
