Well, after lots of good advice and suggestions, I replaced the sac in a beat up Sheaffer Statesman (bought for the express purpose of trying Snorkel restoration on a cheapie). Anyway, after reassembling, the pen didn't fill. The seals are great, but the pen was leaking air around the "sac protector bushing." I pushed at the metal with the tip of a small screwdriver, trying to fully restore the crimping. This resulted in some improvement, but it still leaked. So, I brushed the end of the bushing with shellac, letting it get between the bushing and the sac protector. Now, the pen fills like a dream and is a pretty effective squirt gun (i.e., it's working like a champ). Anyway, slathering something with shellac seems like a pretty inelegant solution to a problem. Shellac can always be removed (with gentle heat), so I don't think that I did anything terribly wrong (did I?). So, what is the preferred method to get the bushing sealed properly in the protector? I would love to hear some suggestions from those who routinely do this repair.
Dave
Most of the luxuries and many of the so-called comforts of life are not only not indispensable, but positive hindrances to the elevation of mankind.
