Well at the last minute I found I could go to the show and was able to hitch a ride with Paul and Deb Contorato. Once again Terry with the help of his 2 sons and numerous volunteers put on a great show. From what I heard, one of the biggest transactions took place on Wednesday night, long before most of the collectors and dealers had arrived. Two sensational early fancy eyedroppers changed hands. During the show one fabulously rare Parker 51 set changed hands in a very private transaction for humongous money. Let us just say over $10,000.00.
During the auction a wonderful Parker 51 Empire set, double jeweled with black barrels sold for around $2,000.00 but the highlight was another Parker 51 set in Nassau green, double jewels, pen and pencil with pristine 14kt gold fish scale caps. The set brought over $3,000.00.
On Sunday a collection of some of the best Eclipse pens and pencils I have ever seen changed hands. About 58 pieces in all. The buyer is interested in parting out the collection so if any reader is interested in really nice Eclipse pens just let me know and I will put you in contact with the seller.
I will expand on the report after I get some rest but once again let it be said - opportunities arise at pen shows that do not exist elsewhere. Parts, nibs, pens, ephemera, desk sets, ink - all under one roof and available for purchase. Don
