A worthwhile and ambitious project John, and certainly long overdue. I flew into Tokyo and met with a rather tired senior executive of Platinum back in the 1990s. I was working on my book which Pilot and Dunhill's parent company would eventually sponsor. I wanted to incorporate Platinum and Sailor. At the time that worker, who would go o to found another well known pen maker today, was terribly embarrassed. He could offer me to information, pleading that the war had destroyed all records. To my knowledge they did not have any full time makie artists but rather farmed out everything to local craftsmen and as you know, they produced what is more tourist type of craft rather than the higher end lacquer pens one finds with Dunhill. Imagine, I had pre arranged this interview, told him my printing costs alone on the proposed book exceeded one hundred grand for 2,000 copies, I was spending three years on the research and I wanted to include Platinum. He offered me nothing and told me he feared for his job and that they were on the brink of bankruptcy. So, if you can bring this subject to life you will have accomplished a lot.BTW, Sailer had no interest at all in sharing their files then. Too busy making pens they told me.
