This is a sterling silver eye dropper fountain pen with a hand engraved Japanese landscape on the cap and barrel done by Ikkou c. 1915-1920. The landscape is one design, starting from the cap with Mount Fuji and flowing down to the barrel depicting a house on the slope in the forest. The artistís signature appears at the bottom of the silver on the barrel. The silver is finished with an acid treatment to give it a matte finish. The cap top is stamped with a VANCO hallmark, a V inside a diamond and with SILVER. The base of the cap and the barrel are hallmarked SILVER. VANCO had a relationship with the Shobido Silver Store in Osaka. Both were owned by members of the Eto family. The gold plated cap band and clip have no hallmark. The nib is a Number 4 IDEAL 14 karat gold Warranted semi flex. The pen is 5 3/16 inches long.
