This is a sterling silver safety shut off eyedropper fountain pen with a hand engraved Japanese peony and butterflies design on the cap and barrel done by Ikkou c. 1915-1920. The design begins with a pair of peony blooms on the barrel and extends to two flying butterflies on the cap. The artistís signature appears at the bottom of the silver on the barrel. The silver is finished with an acid treatment to give it a matte finish. The cap top is stamped SILVER. The overall design of the pen reflects other pens made by VANCO, though there are no maker's marks. The gold plated cap band and clip have no hallmark. The nib is a Number 5 14 karat gold Warranted firm. The pen is 5 1/8 inches long.
