Take note of ad #3....appears to me as a clever, deliberate chiding ad creation to have a smack at competitor Waterman pens. If you know Waterman history, claiming that L.E. Waterman was an insurance agent and was very upset when he handed his pen to a prospective customer to sign a contract. The pen left a blot, ruining the contract and the buyer took that as an omen to not sign the contract. This supposedly inspired Mr Waterman to create his fountain pen.
Also note, this story of the "blot" came to light on the 50th anniversary of the Waterman Pen Co. No mention of this incident is documented prior to to 1934.....shall we just call this fountain pen "spin"?
