The Esterbrook Plunger-Fill fountain pen works like the Imperial I: There is a short ink sac attached to the back of the section, the barrel itself acts as the sac protector and the plunger is a piston unit similar to a vacuum-fil pen. The design is nothing like the standard Sheaffer Touchdown unit, but it does use air pressure to compress the sac and a relief hole to allow the sac to expand and fill with ink.
