Unlike gas in a car over several months (I still leave gas in my lawnmower all winter and spring) ink does not degrade. The amounts of solute particle are minute enough not to cause clogs even should it evaporate, which in good pens can take up to twelve years for complete evaporation, mainly due to dehydration during the winter months when the furnace is on, and only secondarily over the summer months when evaporated water settles in the inner cap not to return. I have observed, as a result of my lackadaisical attitude things about evaporative darkening of inks that most here can only dream about!
