My guess is that it was done by using layers of sheets, like the Vacumatic, then broken or cut in different shapes smaller pieces, and arranged to form the desired pattern. Some parts of the patterns in given places of the pens are wavy because celluloid at some point of the production process is soft like gel .Very high pressure or/and solvents would have been used to bound all the fragments together . Bear in mind that celluloid cannot be injected, as the high temperature needed to injection molding, would destry it . Cellulose acetate can be injected . Celluloid accepts extrusion only, and comes out soft .
