This is a Wahl Checkerboard Design 12 karat yellow gold filled small size clip fountain pen c. 1924-1926. The Checkerboard Design is a repeating pattern of panels of squares in plain blocks and straight lines repeating around the cap and barrel. This 4 5/16 inch long pen is the small size slender model that normally comes with a with a 14 karat gold Number 3 size nib. This nib is a later replacement EVERSHARP 14K MADE IN USA nib similar to those used on Skylines. Introduced on pencils in 1921 and on pens in 1924, the design continued in catalogs through 1926. Ringtop pens and medium size pens with number 4 nibs were also made. The barrel has a rectangular blank for engraving.
