This is a Wahl Tempoint model 520C Hand Engraved Design sterling silver ringtop fountain pen c. 1919. Each Wahl Tempoint Hand Engraved Design pen has a very detailed and deeply cut flower and leaf pattern on the cap and barrel. The barrel has an oval bordered cartouche for personalized engraving. There are no maker's marks on the cap and barrel, but both are stamped STERLING. The cap is also stamped PAT. JUL 5 1904 and the barrel is stamped PAT. JAN 25 1904. This 3 5/8 inch long pen is the smaller of two ringtop pens and is normally equipped with a Number 2 nib and sold for $10.00 in 1919. This example has a Number 3 size 14 karat gold nib, likely a replacement or upgrade. This version of the Hand Engraved Design pen, where the cap is larger in diameter than the barrel, appears in the 1919 catalog as a Tempoint model. Wahl began using the Wahl name on these pens in 1921 and the cap and barrel design continued through 1922.
