Sanford ink building c1905

located near downtown Chicago, this building was demolished in the 1950's to make way for a cross town expressway. I shutter with horror to think of the ephemera and surviving materials that may have just been thrown into dumpsters. All that remains are a few signs on the highway that say EXIT and DO NOT ENTER !!
In the 1990s I met an elderly gentleman who was an executive at Sanford before the building was demolished. At his home he had a nice collection of ink bottles and a few display cases. I bought some of the inks, nice examples from the 20's thru the 50's plus I was able to copy a c1900 and 1905 catalog.
