Montblanc desk pen base repair

I don't know if I've asked this before. I have a maybe 30 year old MB149 desk base (the plain square one) that I've kept in a drawer for ages. I decided to bring it out again, and then found that the cap bit came away because the holding screw at the tip of the cap had broken. This was a while ago, but then I won a 'user' lalique MB149 base on the bay where the previous owner probably had a similar problem and decided to glue it together.
I took the two items to a MB store after preliminary enquiries seemed to suggest possible fixes, but after inspection, they said that neither could be fixed. Not even the simple replace-the-screw fix. So does anyone have any suggestions please?
