On the other Cross mechanical pencil, under the cap is also an eraser. This one is a newer model that is more like the thickness of a Townsend, but it is not a Townsend. Under the eraser, is a small hole that seems to be to put other leads. HOWEVER, once you put a lead in there, it cannot come out, because the hole is too small and the space beneath the hole is wide open.
However however, on one of these types, a barrel comes out. The barrel is the part that holds the eraser. Under that barrel is a worm screw assembly that seems to be the lead feeding mechanism. In that section are...the spare leads. BUT on the other one of this model, that barrel does not come loose.
So, generally, should I have to feed the lead manually? And what about that other pencil that seems to "hide" the leads?
It would be a shame to not be able to use these pencils. But last time I checked, Cross wanted $10 up front just to touch and pen or pencil, aside from the actual repair.
Thanks for any help.
