With the assistance of a couple German connections, we set out looking for a Pelikan 400 with black striped barrel. Came across an heir of a stationary store (now closed), that was in business for generations in The South of Germany. Amongst the archive of 100s of never sold pens, was found a store “sampler” (which explains the early nib in a 400NN) Pelikan 400NN, solid black barrel with a transitional, double incised BBB nib. Of course, this supersedes a 400 with black stiped barrel and was sold for the first time and headed to USA.
One feature known to exist, but not often seen, is the solid black barrel with ink view. Only produced in the 400NN, yet not known exactly when and for how long (or how many). The second feature not commonly seen, aside from catalogs is this BBB nib. Double incised along with tip size stamped into the nib, suggests a production transition period.
