I have a question, part technical, part history: I need to do some searching in the earliest era of Pentrace message archives. I don't *know* that these exist but remain hopeful.
I was asked to write a profile article of our San Diego Pen Club. It feels very new, but that is only because it has restarted after a quiet period after the death of the founder, Ron Meloche. Ron started casual gatherings at his studio/workshop in Lakeside, CA, somewhere in 1999. It was first through a chance meeting with another pen person, but Ron - having just starting into pen repair - had been reading and posting in some of the (then) new pen forums. I know he was on FPN, but that wasn't until 2005; I have heard he posted on the Zoss list, but I have not found those archived anywhere.
Which leaves me at Pentrace, where I think he also had a small footprint. However, searches find nothing, and even searching on items like "San Diego" only bring up a couple of posts from me over the last handful of years. I know there was a history of the origins of Pentrace and shutdowns and moves and new admins and all that. My search may be in vain, and I'm mostly doing this now for myself, and to feel a connection with Ron's early history. He was a generous man, in his time and good spirit, and I miss him, his studio, and his monthly box of donuts.
If anyone can shed light or help, please let me know. Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Jon
