First, let me say I know it is neither your practice nor your style to be such a grumbler. But my opinion is any such exhibitor should be ashamed of themselves. IMO, they should be asking themselves if maybe the real problem is they are asking too much for their pens.
I have purchased several vintage pens from the former owner of the Fountain Pen Hospital and, unless, he has stated otherwise, they have been restored to impeccable working condition by a well known repair expert. Plus he covers them with a generous warranty.... and stands behind it.
And we all know the quality of Gary Lehrer's vintage pens. Nothing needs to be said about them!
The former owner of FPH knows "the market" for vintage pens; he does not give them away. If he wants to sell them at the low end of the current market what right does some other vendor have to complain?
IMO, complaints are better directed at those who sell vintage pens in an uncertain state of repair at an eye watering price.
Better pens with a better warranty at a better price? Those who have traveled a long distance and spent their hard earned money to get to the pen show deserve it. The other vendors can either choose to compete or to stay on the sidelines. But to grumble & complain does no one nor our hobby any good.
