Her partner won't "allow" her to smoke in public? ... that could be several things, I guess. Probably a jealousy thing. Her partner knows that a lady pipe smoker is going to attract the attention of men (...as well you know). So your friend's partner probably can't handle that kind of hit to the ego. That's a shame. I'd be proud to be in the company of a attractive lady smoking her pipe.
