Like other topics, your contrarianism clouds your vision as to the point of the essay. I quote:
"What, actually, do nuclear power or the rainforest or subsidized housing for the homeless really have to do with one's sexual orientation?"
If you can logically connect homosexual activity with rainforest politics then you will have made a rational contribution to this discussion. Othewise you are merely attempting political paternalism with the recurring parrotism of "sexuality is more than just sex."
You must provide examples. It is not semantics when you do not explain your position or provide evidence and grounds for its potential validity.
