Given that I love plants and the outdoors, one might guess I miss having a yard now that I no longer live in a detached, single-family home. Wrong.
I much prefer to be hiking somewhere in the mountains (on a nice, shady, forested trail, given my dislike of bright sun), than in a landscape of artificial postage-stamp sized pieces of heavily-modified outdoors. And I found the yard work took me away from doing what I wanted.
The problem is exacerbated by the tendency for things beyond my control to pull me away from home for several weeks at a time during critical parts of the growing season. I could see a yard working for me if I had one or more compatible people to share a home with. Until then, I'm much happier without one.
