    Howdy David -

I managed to misplace your email address, but this came to me this week and I thought you might be the perfect candidate.

    Cheers,

    Sister Betty

    Inserted bit from email:

As some of you know our dear friend Eric Rofes pasted away last summer. Eric was an author, activist and professor at Humboldt State. His work in the queer community was amazing!

Here at the University we need some help. I'm making a call to anyone who can help with a weekend class that Eric was going to teach this semester. You sisters are some of the most well connected people I know. If anyone can help please contact me off dish at HumboldtLites@aol.com or (707) 476-0439 (h).

    Here is the information:

HSU (Humboldt State) is in the process of trying to find folks to teach some of the nine classes that Eric Rofes was scheduled to teach in the fall. One class particularly at risk for cancellation is a one-unit weekend workshop entitled Gay Men's Urban Cultures, scheduled for October 6-8. I'm wondering if any of you might be interested, or might know someone who is interested in taking over this weekend class. At this point we hope to offer a $500 speaker's fee and travel expenses. The class runs Fri-Sun, and we had hoped to make the Friday night session a public talk and a public event for the Multicultural Queer Studies Minor Program that Eric co-founded. The class is: "Gay Men's Urban Cultures: San Francisco in the 1970s," a 1-unit weekend course at HSU, Friday-Sunday, October 6-8, 2006: "An intensive look at the lives of gay men in San Francisco during the 1972-84 era through readings, videotapes and lectures." Here are the materials he planned to use: Readings: Out in the Cas
tro: Desire, Promise, Activism, edited by Winston Leyland; Articles by Kath Weston, Gayle Rubin and Susan Stryker; Interviews with Bob Brown, Leo Igashira, and others, from Eric's oral history project. Films: The Cockettes; The Castro; The Life and Times of Harvey Milk; Tales of the City Eric's syllabus is online: http://www.ericrofes.com/teaching/Gay_Men_Urban_Cultures.pdf Someone taking over this class would not have to teach the same class (which would be impossible), but could offer something that addresses the topic in some way, and that honors the spirit of Eric in some way.
