    Strange. I'd actually expect such a thing to come up in your present hometown rather than your past one, just based on which place has more "believe the Bible from cover to cover" types.

    I'd have been quite pleased to get that medallion number, myself. No, I'm not a satanist. But just think of the advertising possiblities: "one hell of a cab", "damn good service", etc.

    The funny thing is, before televangelists got going, the significance of 666 was something only a few biblical scholars were aware of. You could ask the random guy on the street, and he'd hem and haw and say "ummm... it's the number between 665 and 667?"

    Because it's a nice, easy number to remember, it got used semi-frequently as a model number for home appliances. (One of my hobbies is collecting old radios, and back when I frequented a usenet newsgroup for such an interest, every so often you'd get a post from someone who had bought some manufacturer's model 666 radio set).
