To quote Vince McMahon 'its all about the money ah!!'

The Kremlin ain't bothered about suffering Russian Passport holders in South Ossetia, they are displaying their strength to Gas and Oil transporters who currently move said products through the Fourth Corridor.
The Ruski's threatened to cut off European gas supplies last year (its why they tried to stop the Orange's in the Ukraine too) and as a result more EU investment is being pumped into the Fourth Corridor which bypasses Russia terrority.
Hence the Ruski's trying to lay claim to South Ossetia (again) and rattling the saber at potential investors in the Georgian infrastructure.
I notice someone on DC has posted that US troops were in Georgia at the time, well don't be surprised if the EU or the UN end up leaving a rather large garrison there for the time being.
Russia seems to be keen to revert back to type to assert its dominance as a global Gas and Oil player and quite frankly they have a long way to go before anyone is going to bow to route 1 idiot mode pressure of this sort.
The Russian's sent bombers over Scotland last year in a blatant show of force and (apart from France!! of course!!) relations with the rest of the EU are souring rapidly.
Watch this space!
