1978 Artic Cat eltigre cross country

I just purchased a 1978 Artic Cat 6000 El tigre "cross country" that was sitting in a hanger since the mid 80's from the orignal owner who is 85 years old. What does the "cross country" refer to? Its written in gold letters above the El tigre logos on the hood.
