I can never wait very long for the next cigarette.
Consequently, I don't wait very long and smoke quite a bit again.
: I quit smoking cigarettes 5 years ago. I was
: getting married and I decided it was time
: to quit. I had been a smoker for 17
: years, I started when I was 12 and quit at
: 29. I wasnt a heavy smoker, between 5
: 10 cigs a day, but I thought it was time.
: I missed smoking a lot for the first 6
: months or so, but as time went by I got
: used to not being a smoker anymore. For
: the first 3 years, I smoked a few
: cigarettes occasionally, but for the last
: 2 years I havent had any cigarettes at
: all.
: Over the last month or so Ive been thinking
: about smoking again. Im not sure why,
: perhaps the stress Im feeling post-9/11,
: I dont know. Today on my way home from
: work, I stopped at the newsstand and
: bought a pack of Winston box. I walked a
: couple of blocks debating whether I should
: open the pack and light up or just toss it
: in the garbage. I finally decided to open
: the pack and light a cigarette. I first
: took a couple of drags without inhaling.
: The taste was the same as I remembered,
: but I know that the real pleasure from
: smoking comes when you inhale! So I then
: took a decent size drag and inhaled. I
: started choking and coughed as soon as the
: smoke started going down my throat. I
: thought I must have looked pretty silly as
: if this were my first cigarette ever!
: I almost put out the cigarette, thinking what
: a bad idea this whole thing was. My
: throat was burning and I felt pretty
: embarrassed. After I stopped coughing, I
: decided to continue. I took a few more
: drags without inhaling, until my throat
: got back to normal. I was smarter this
: time and took a small drag and inhaled it.
: This went down much smoother. I didnt
: cough, but it still felt pretty rough.
: With each small drag, it got easier and as
: time went on more enjoyable.
: After I finished this first cigarette, I
: immediately lit another. This time I took
: bigger drags and inhaled them without a
: problem. It didnt take long for my lungs
: to get used to smoking again. I guess
: its like riding a bike, once you learn
: you never forget! I really enjoyed the
: feeling of the smoke filling my lungs.
: All of the stress from the workday just
: melted away. I felt like I was in my own
: little smokers world, just me and the
: wonderful smoke working its magic. How
: did I go the last 5 years without it?
: Im not sure if I want to continue smoking
: again, but I enjoyed these 2 cigarettes so
: much that I cant wait to smoke another.
: I decided to limit myself to 2 cigs a day
: for now and see how it goes. Ive always
: enjoyed smoking. I worry about the health
: effects, this is why I quit 5 years ago,
: but there isnt anything else that really
: replaces it.
: Id love to get some feedback from people who
: have quit and started again.
