He would probably get a ton of votes but I think it would do more damage to our political situation than good. Hillary would be the Democratic nominee and they would split the dem/indy-dem votes, which would cause McCain to win. The independent party would be seen as anti-American for stealing votes from the Democratic nominee and costing them the election. PR would spin them as the unpatriotic social pariah much like they did union workers in the late 30s. They already said the same thing about Nader in the 2000 election, claiming he lost the election for Gore. Honestly, I wish the two-party system (or more like one-party / business party) we have would face some serious changes but I cannot think of any legitimate solution. It's not hopeless but as long as the Dems and Repubs hold a runoff / two-round system that dominates media coverage and rallies the majority of our voters, it will always be tough for a third party to join the mix. We desperately need more choices in our elections and a more diverse mix in the federal and local chambers.
