Last night, in a desparate attempt at sleep, I used "color putty" (silly putty knock-off) in lieu of earplugs. I woke up a few hours later, to find that I couldn't remove the stuff from my ears - I woke one of my fieldmates up to try getting it unstuck with a toothpick--we tried getting the putty cold with ice cubes (didn't work), and thought about melting it out. After reading some peoples' accounts of similar experiences on the internet, I decided it was best to preserve what I could of my hearing, and make the trip to the emergency room.
The doctor, a small Peruvian man, was able to forcep, curette, alcohol swab, and finger his way through the mess, while an RN with little to do but watch...did little but watch - that's beside the point.
It all came out, save some residue on the outside of my ear that I'll get to at some point, and the eardrums are clear of it, thankfully.
I carefully inspected the packaging (product made in USA, packaged in China, sold in USA) to find nary a warning label about the product changing consistency inside of a warm ear canal--only warnings against its being a potential choking agent, and to "use only as directed."
Do you think there's room for me to file a clever, spurious lawsuit to pay off the medical bills that will be coming my way?
