Large corporations or other manufacturers don't like insurance companies or lawyers. If an insurance company says they are going to sue, the corporation is likely to basically say "F you. Go ahead, twerp," and then fight it. If a customer calls with a complaint or threat to sue (i.e. a customer calling directly rather than their insurance company or whatever), sometimes the corporation will just pay the dang bill to shut the customer up. It's like a settlement before anyone ever puts a pen to paper.
You might call the manufacturer.
