While Marty's father lay in a coma before his death, Jerard Steuerman, the "friend" faked his own death, assumed a new identity and fled to sunny California. He contacted his then girlfriend using the code word "pistachio." It's a fascinating case and it is being revisited right now. Not long ago an evidentiary hearing closed and an appeal of the judge's decision is underway. There is a sad crime case being revisited in New York City. Martin Tankleff (www.martytankleff.org) was arrested 17 years ago for the murder of his parents. He was coerced into a false confession which he never signed. He was 17 years old.
