I have been dating a Portuguese boy for almost a year now, only problem is I'm not Portuguese. In his culture huge family gatherings and closeness is a big part in life. He has invited me to these occasions knowing it would be a little weird for me but that by some chance maybe I would be accepted. Its hard because I always feel pushed out and that I, the blonde, tall, most un-postuguesest person in the world, am unwelcome. People say things behind my back and are rude to me even though I have never met them in my life. I am already a shy person so this doesn't help. I am wondering if maybe I should just cut it off with him because I know his culture is very important to him and his life and maybe it would be just easier for him not getting dirty looks himself while introducing his non-portuguese girlfriend all the time. What should I do?
