I must respectfully disagree with the previous entriy. Regarding Delmo Walter Jr. comments. I agree the Mr. Machlan in the Fighting Yank origin story, but I think all the artists work in the FF portion of the issue turned in some very fine work. Commenting specifically-
Chapter One- Quinton Bedwell did some clever and well done work. Space considerations preclude me from going into a lot of detail, but the overhead birds-eye view P.O.V. panel (page 2, middle of page) was very effective. Plus the “heroine on the attack” image (bottom, page 2) had a real sense of dynamism about it.
Chapter Two- Rock Baker (pencils) and Jeff Austin (inks) work together to bring us some really stand-out images. I particularly like how the artists caught and portrayed Syn’s shock and anguish at the horrible realization that she might have actually killed someone.
Chapter Three- Steph and Mark Heike plus Paul Willis produced a really slam–bang (almost) all action section with a lot of classic comic book combat images. The bottom panel on page 4 and the fight sequence at the bottom of page 6 and top of page 7 were especially good.
Chapter Four– Once again a group effort yields excellent results. I though the facial expression were well done and did a good job of expressing the emotions and feelings of the characters, eg: page 1, top and bottom left panel; page 2, bottom right panel; page 3, middle left panel; and page 6, bottom left– a particular favorite. Plus this chapter has some really great action sequences pages 4 and 5.
So, with all these specific examples I hope that I have explained and illustrated my position.
