Indeed, Nellie, it is a rendering of the Early Cyrillic letter "Ksi" !

I therefore dare to believe this is a Russian Imperial piece coming down from HIH The Grand Duchess Xenia.
I remember reading once she was sometimes called "KSYusha" in the Family.
