Lord Twining published important books on royal jewels. Menkes got a lot from Twining.
google for Lord Twining but also try for his books in your local major library. They cost the earth now.
Also google for cockade.
I shall see what else can be dredged up from old notes.
Many other posters here contributed good info on cockades.
The cockade possibly begins with George III or IV.
