Well, gifts from a private person are different I think. When a person marries or someone dies, often the families ask that donations and gifts be made to various charities. It can also provide a possible tax write off.
In the case of someone like Queen Charlotte, she requested her her private gifts of jewels be sold to provide her daughters with income. That I can understand.
Personally, I would be quite overwhelmed with all the choices some of these ladies have.
