Despite the hard times emotional and financial obviously suffered by the Duchesses during and after WW2 they still seemed to have hung on to most if not all their gems... (Irene's own tiara from her mother Queen Sophia of Greece and with a provenance back through the female line to Queen Victoria was only sold after her death) and their mother in law Helene was able to leave magnificent gems to her grand daughters on her death... many of which left to the eldest Margherita are now worn to great effect by HER daughter in law Astrid of Belgium
: This is a really intriguing puzzle, thank you
: Malluu and Arthur for the photos and your
: interesting ideas.
: I think that we are looking at 2, if not 3
: different bases, with the Savoy knots.
: It seems to me that the tiara in the photo
: Arthur posted has a different configuration
: of knots yet again. But, if this tiara was
: created by Musy perhaps any combination and
: different configuration is possible,
: although I suspect that enabling different
: variations in the shape of the knots might
: have been beyond the skills of even that
: wizard of jewellery.
