One of the impressions I have formed is that Queen Mary did not wear her amethyst parure only as a set of mourning jewels.
: It was reported that Mary as Princess of Wales
: wore an amethyst and diamond tiara during
: the birthday celebration of King Christian
: IX of Denmark back in April 1902. I suspect
: that this could be the tiara of this parure.

: To Kelly - What wonderful research! I would
: never have guessed that this parure dates
: back to 1815.
: I *think* I saw the necklace in a photo
: ten years ago, worn (borrowed, I should
: think) by a porn actress of all people. She
: was at an adult film awards show, and I have
: to say it really looked like Queen Mary's
: necklace. I tried once or twice before to
: bring it up, but my much earlier posts were
: deleted. The actress wasn't naked or
: anything, and because of her (naturally)
: low-cut attire, the necklace was very
: I've never heard anything about the necklace
: being worn by an adult film actress but it
: was worn by Anna Wintour several years ago.
: There might be a very simple explanation to
: all that.
: Queen Mary had a quite a few nieces on the
: Cambridge side : The duchess of Beaufort,
: her sister lady Helena Cambridge, lady may
: Abel Smith, lady Mary Whitley. Could it be
: that she left the amethyst set to one of her
: niece and it was sold after the death of one
: of those niece.
: That certainly seems like the most logical
