Apart from possibly having that brooch in 1893 Queen Mary received other amethysts amongst her wedding gifts.
Perhaps the most significant might have been amongst the gifts given to her by the Czar and Empress of Russia, although to me the press report is not clear about the Russian amethyst - that is whether it was in a brooch.
One of the gifts definitely was a brooch from Mr William Burdett-Coutts MP.
Although his wife, Baroness Angela Burdett-Coutts, lost a significant part of her income when they married, she was still extremely wealthy, and so I suspect that the gift would have been valuable. At present I do not have any images of either of these amethysts. Does anyone?
