: When I was looking at press reports of the
: gifts made to Queen Maud for her marriage in
: 1896 I saw the following.
: (For those who do not want to strain their
: eyes reading such faded print, the relevant
: section is 6 lines from the end. It
: commences "Lady and Gentlemen
: Daily Telegraph 21 July 1896
: The Times described what I think is the
: same jewel as a brooch. (Perhaps the antenna
: are removable and so the rest of the jewel
: can be worn as a brooch)
: I do not think there can be any doubt that
: the description in the Daily Telegraph
: refers to the anything other than the
: aigrette currently worn by Princess Astrid.
: The rubies in it are definitely cabochons.
: And to think that the media in 1896
: described the jewel as having antenna!! Just
: as we do today!
