As I have never seen snow I was very interested in Maryjo's comments. I never realised that snowflakes had a distinctive pattern. Nor, as a person who lives in the southern hemisphere, was I instinctively aware that the design of HM's new brooch resembled the North Star.
All became clear to me when I read the Governor-General of Canada's presentation remarks to QEII -- that the brooch was -- "a snowflake, shaped like the North Star." http://www.cleveland19.com/story/35923217/hillberg-berk-creates-canadian-sapphire-jubilee-brooch-for-her-majesty-queen-elizabeth-ii
Many thanks Maryjo - you have broadened my horizons as well as giving me a very valid reason to look at HM's new brooch again.
: A four-sided snowflake? It certainly IS one
: of a kind! All snowflakes have six sides
: or points. This brooch might better be
: described as the North Star.
