Re: Origin of Queen Sophia of Greece's diamond tiara
What an interesting find Brian! I can see why you think this tiara might be the Greek diamond tiara. Personally, I have never subscribed to the belief that the tiara was a present from the Kaiser to his sister -- it is not the style of jewel which he gave. All the press reports of the time stated that the Emperor gave his sister a turquoise parure for her wedding.
It is possible that the Empress gave her daughter this tiara as a wedding gift but that it was then referred to as a necklace -- all depends on the reading of various news items. Is the necklace diamonds or rubies and diamonds?
I would have to do a lot more searching to be sure - but I have wondered.
The Queen wearing the tiara which I think Ashdean referred to.
