In Crown Princess Cecilie's last years she was in the clutches of a man with the name Otto Groha, who apparently had dubious intentions. She gave and bequeathed him a lot of gifts and jewellery, but a court ruling of 1955 set aside her will on the grounds that her mental faculties had begun to fail.
According to this Danish article (Flensborg Avis 22 October 1955) Groha was a.o. ordered by a court in Stuttgart to pay back 65,000 Mark to Cecilie's estate. That was his proceeds from the sale of the "Romanov emerald" which Cecilie had inherited from her sister Alexandrine. While Cecilie was still alive, Groha reportedly sold it on her request to a jeweller in Stuttgart for 125,000 Mark and kept half of the money himself.
