In his biography of the Duke of Connaught, Noble Frankland says the following about the coronation of Tsar Nicholas: Queen Victoria was determined her daughter-in-law should not be lost without trace amidst the unparalleled splendour of the Russian Court & so lent her a collection of her own jewels. The Connaughts wondered if they had to insure them, the value being £30,000.
