I've never had the feeling that the Queen has had a "love affair" with her jewel collection. My own perception is that there are some pieces that she has sentimental ties to (particularly where Granny, her father, or Prince Phillip are involved), and that she has a sense of occasion or a sense of State as to when to pull out the stops, but I would characterize her as having a love affair with her race horse operations far more than with her diamonds or her jewel collection.
