The Shah of Iran never purchased these emeralds at auction. http://www.royal-magazin.de/spain/emeralds-queen-ena-spain.htm "The description of the emerald jewels sold by Queen Victoria Eugenia. As for the buyer, there´s a certain confusion because both Cartier and Chaumet claim to be the successful bidder. In 1961 Cartier´s bought the emerald jewelry of the Empress Eugénie at Stuker´s auction house in Berne. Consisting of nine emeralds, the collection comprised a necklace, ring and brooch, and was in the form of a later, somewhat clumsy Madrid setting of the twentieth century which was may have re-used the nine emeralds of the tiara once made for the empress by the jeweller Fontenay. Cartier put this gems on a new diamond-necklace as pendants and sold this in 1971 to the Schah of Persia for his wife the Shabanu Farah Diba, she wore this necklace at the occassion of Persepolis."
