The sapphire necklace was given to Princess Elizabeth by her parents. In her last official photograph before she became queen, she was wearing a blue gown and the sapphires. I believe the picture was held back until after mourning for the king ended, and released after she was queen.
The first picture in the banner shows the original necklace. Later it was shortened, and the sapphire that was removed became the pendant in the second and third photos.
