Boris - I agree with you over the vague subject. Will alter it now if I still can.
I was in a hurry to get it up here and then get the poll going on the Quiz board.

: Thank you very much Nellie for (re-)starting
: the discussion and to Boffer for settling
    : the matter.
: In view of the photographic evidence, I
: could never quite understand the reasoning
: behind the theory of two different brooches.
    :
: Just a plea, by the way:
: IMHO it would be very helpful in general to
: avoid subject titles which are worded in
: such general terms as 'Brooch' which don't
: identify the subject matter at all.
: It's easy to miss an interesting discussion,
: as well as to waste time to find out that
: you're not interested, when you can't see
: what it's all about in the overall view of
: the threads on this board.

    : Thank you Boffer.
: I agree with you that it is the one brooch,
: but i'm sure some others are not yet
    : convinced.
: However, I have a note that the Royal
: Collection confirmed that Bristol is wrong.
: It was from North Wales.
: Bristol was an error made by Menkes which
: Field relied on, and the Royal Collection
: used Field as source in Five Gold Rings .
    :
: I will still do a poll on the Royal Jewels
: Quiz board because I'm sure others will want
: to discuss the matter from a jewels
    : perspective.
    :
: I am not seeking to revive debate over
    : persons, only the jewels.

: This is the brooch that was given to Queen
: Alexandra as a wedding gift in 1863, upon
: her death it passed into the main royal
: family and is now considered among the
: jewels to be worn by the wife of the Prince
    : of Wales.
    :
: It thus passed from Queen Alexandra, to
: Queen Mary (as Queen), to the Queen Mother
    : (as Queen), to Diana and now to Camilla;
: both as the wife of the Prince of Wales.
    :
: There is only one brooch, not two versions,
: it was never copied, the brooch worn by
: Diana is the same as the one now worn by the
    : Duchess of Cornwall.
    :
: The royal collection consider is as being
: part of the jewels to be traditionally worn
: by the wife of the Prince of Wales; and when
: there isn't a Prince of Wales, to be worn by
: the Queen. Which explains why it passed from
: Queen Mary to the Queen Mother in 1937 along
: with the other jewels to be worn by the
: Queen Consorts, and it was then gifted to
: Diana as a wedding present in 1981.
    :
: The brooch was a originally a gift to Queen
: Alexandra from the Ladies of Bristol.
    :
: This has all been confirmed by the Royal
: Collection, in my correspondence with them.
