From Leslie Field's The Queen's Jewels (page 61): The royal family were on their official visit to South Africa at the time of Princess Elizabeth's twenty-first birthday on 21 April 1947, but her parents had come prepared with this twin pair of Cartier ivy leaf brooches, each covered with pavé-set diamonds and a large round brilliant in the centre The Queen in 1951 wearing them as lapel brooches; she also wore them on her hat, or to accentuate the corners of a square neckline.
