In pre-First World War photos Queen Marie of Romania was often photographed wearing this stomacher and the pearls and diamonds tiara that had been the property of the first Queen of Romania, née Elisabeth Von Wied. At outbreak of the war and of the Russian revolution the jewels were sent to Russiafor safekeeping, but they lost forever afterwards.
