Re: Count Carl Johan Bernadotte and Kerstin and tiara Archived Message

CP Margaret’s diamond brooch from the Grenadiers is back in the Royal Collection – it’s most likely the diamond brooch originally belonging to CP Margaret which is listed as a gift from Count Carl Johan and wife among the christening gifts to CP Victoria.
Queen Silvia wore it a few times though, but only in a very short period between 1981 and 82 and never again – see the 1981 pic from New York below.
But it’s very unlikely indeed that this one brooch is the only piece which Count Carl Johan would have inherited from his mother CP Margaret.
Wonder if we will see the brooch worn at his funeral or memorial service.

By the way, there was more jewelry among Victoria’s christening gifts which she apparently has never worn, for example a turquoise and oriental pearl necklace from Sigvard Bernadotte in the shape of daisies… as CP Margaret was the original ‘Daisy’, perhaps that necklace goes back to her as well.

: Count Carl Johan must have inherited the small
: diamond grenade brooch his mother received
: as a wedding present from the Grenadier
: Guards in 1905. There are pictures of
: Countess Kerstin wearing this brooch,
    : possibly for their wedding.
    :
: I have never seen pictures of other
: historical pieces being worn by his wives,
: which I do find somewhat strange. Though I
: have to admit I haven´t seen many pictures
: of Countess Kerstin. I am sure she must have
: attended other family events also.
: Didn´t Count Carlo Johan once comment
: negatively on the fact that his brother sold
: family jewels (C Carl Johan found them in a
: shop in the States, or something similar). A
: rather strange comment if he had himself
    : sold jewels.

    : Thank you, Roger!

: Considering the fact that Countess Kerstin
: Bernadotte apparently didn’t wear a tiara on
: other white tie occasions (for example
: below, seen with her husband, Princess
: Lilian and Prince Bertil at a gala at
: Stockholm Palace in the early 80s), I guess
: that the tiara she wore to the 1976 wedding
: could very well have been a loan.
    :
: Which is indeed odd – as you said, all the
: siblings did receive their share of jewels
: from their mother CP Margaret, but it
: remains a mystery to me what Carl Johan’s
    : share might have been.

: I never knew what Carl Johan got from his
: mothers inheritance but surly something
: must have been given to him as well since
: his siblings got beautiful pieces.
    :
: Gunnilas tiara is a flexible piece of
: jewelry that she can use as a brooch or
: tiara. She told me that its from her family.
    :
: I really wonder what happened to Kerstin's
: tiara. Maybe it was a loan?

: Thank you for posting the photo, Monica!
: I have never seen pics of this particular
: tiara from other occasions either.
: Below one more photo of Countess Kerstin
    : Bernadotte from the 1976 pre-wedding
: festivities, and two of Count Carl Johan’s
: second wife Countess Gunilla wearing the
: pearl and diamond tiara she has always used,
: most likely an aigrette originally:
